Course Information

  • Meall Mor Lodge is an outstanding large Scottish lodge set within the 19,000 acre Kildermorie Estate. Lying above a bend of the River Alness close to Loch Morie, students will be able to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life in a secluded and tranquil setting. All rooms are en suite and comfortably outfitted. Rooms start at £1800 for a twin and £1975 for a double (for single occupancy). These prices are discounted to £1440 for a twin and £1570 for a double for late availability.

  • The lodge is within easy driving distance of Inverness. There are also train connections to Alness and a taxi can be arranged from there. If you are driving we will send more specific instructions on reaching us. We do not include travel within our courses, but are happy to help you plan!

  • Basic art equipment will be provided. (easels, boards, stools) We encourage artists to bring their own paints and brushes so lessons learnt are transferable after the course. If you cannot bring your own brushes and paints, let us know before booking. There will be a midweek lecture on the surrounding area and its art history by Mary Miers.

  • To get the most from this course, a degree of experience and familiarity with your medium is required. This is not for first time painters.

  • Our menu will be drawing heavily from the area. Breakfast will be served on a help yourself basis, there will be a wide variety of fresh fruits, yoghourts, cereals, homemade granola, cooked options; eggs and bacon. Whatever way you like to start your morning, we have you covered. The students will break before lunch with tea and coffee accompanied with cake and other sweet-treats. Lunch tends to be light as painting continues straight after a brief rest. You will be greeted with a cocktail once teaching ends, with time for relaxation and reflection before supper. For supper you can expect 2 courses; usually main and pudding, with complimentary wine. We cater for all dietary requirements and there are vegan and vegetarian options available. We publish all menus 2 weeks before the course.

  • This course is open for Oil, acrylic, pastel, water colour. Please get in contact if you have any questions regarding this. We shall witness the fabled Highland “white nights” - long days of sunlight climaxing in the late evening, with a unique hue on which we intend to capitalise. Accordingly the daily structure will be varied and flexible, with late sessions available to catch the night light. To fully experience the Highland environment we will (weather permitting) be painting outdoors in the landscape. This will mean a short morning walk to our chosen painting spot. These walks will not be particularly long and you will not have to carry equipment, but you must be comfortable walking on uneven terrain with slight elevation. Back at the Lodge we have plenty of space to paint if the weather does not behave!
